Reedus Excited For “Walking Dead” Spin-Off

The Negan & Maggie series got a proper name in “City of the Dead,” the Rick & Michonne series is going by “The Walking Dead: Rick & Michonne,” and now the third new spin-off of AMC’s recently finished former ratings juggernaut has settled on its name – “The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon”.

The series finale of “The Walking Dead” ended with Norman Reedus’ fan favorite Daryl Dixon riding off on his motorcycle into the distance – destination unknown. The spin-off will see him emerge in France.

Speaking with EW, AMC president Dan McDermott explained the basic premise of the series, which sounds like Daryl starts off the series rather Jason Bourne style – a proficient American killer who wakes up lost in Europe with amnesia:

The spin-off will follow Daryl as he wakes up and finds himself somewhere on the European continent and tries to piece together what happened. How did he get here? How’s he going to get home?”

The story is reportedly connected to the mid-credits scene from “The Walking Dead: World Beyond” finale in which a scientist in an abandoned French lab is shot after watching videos about tests being done on variant walkers filmed by CDC virologist Dr. Edwin Jenner (Noah Emmerich) – a character seen only in the first season finale of “The Walking Dead”.

Reedus says the new series will be “way different” with a whole new story, characters, tone, look, sound and vibe. Talking with the outlet, he confirms filming has been underway since last month, and so far, it’s all going well:

“We’re three weeks done. We’ve got three weeks in the can. It’s f—ing great! Everybody that’s involved in it is really, really excited about what we’re doing. It’s so epic in scale, and the tone is so good and different and moody.

There’s history in the story. There’s history in the walls around us. There’s history in the sound of it all. It’s a very different feel. It has the stuff that you want from the show, but it’s just picked up and put in a whole other dimension.

It’s a reset, you learn a lot of things after 12 years of doing a show, and there are certain paths that you inevitably have to go down because [there is such a big cast]. We don’t really have that over there. It’s kind of a fresh start for us, with all the things that we loved doing and just a whole bunch more.

He adds he couldn’t be happier right now, continuing on with how exciting the show is and “it’s something I’m really proud of”. He isn’t resting on any laurels just yet – “we just got to keep it up.”

“The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon” is expected to premiere sometime late next year or early 2024.
