With the press rounds for “Black Adam” having begun, those involved have started talking up the film and, more importantly, other projects they’re working on.
One such person is Beau Flynn who, along with Hiram Garcia, are producers on many of Dwayne Johnson’s blockbusters of the past near decade from “Hercules” and “San Andreas” through “Baywatch,” “Rampage,” “Skyscraper” and more.
Speaking with Collider recently, the pair offered updates on what’s next for them and Johnson. First up, they confirm the two “Red Notice” sequels announced earlier this year are progressing just fine:
Flynn: “We have a ‘Red Notice 2’ script and almost [Red Notice] 3. The plan is hopefully if Hiram and I have of our way that we would make those movies back to back. But it’s going to be all about the scripts and how we feel and how Dwayne, Gal, and Ryan feel about them. But that franchise is a blast and obviously Netflix really wants it, and Rawson [Marshall Thurber, director and screenwriter] is committed.”
Garcia: “Yeah, Rawson (Marshall Thurber) is working away and we were just talking to him about it the other day. He’s deep in it and that’s his baby. So, he’s grinded away. We’re excited to be able to get into it and see a new draft that he’s about to deliver us to us very soon.”
The first “Red Notice” reportedly cost $200 million to produce and premiered on Netflix in late 2021 where it became one of the most-watched movies ever on the platform. Filming both sequels back-to-back saves on money, but can make for tricky scheduling for three of the biggest film stars in the world at the moment.
Next up, Flynn spoke about a sequel to last year’s Disney live-action family film “Jungle Cruise,” telling the outlet: “it’s something we really want” and that Dwayne and Emily’s “chemistry is extraordinary” in the first film to the point that “I have a feeling like those two will make sure that a ‘Jungle Cruise 2’ gets made at some point.” However there’s no actual movement for now.
Much more likely to move is another “Jumanji” feature with Garcia indicating a follow-up to “Jumanji: The Next Level” is coming and it’ll happen soon:
“‘Jumanji’ is definitely going to happen. Obviously Jake Kasdan is directing ‘Red One’ [upcoming Prime Video holiday movie], so right now he’s working on that.
But we have a ton of ‘Jumanji’ conversations. We actually have a great take on what we’re going to do for the next movie. So I know in talking with Jake, once he comes clear of ‘Red One’, that’s going to be his next priority for him and that’s something we definitely want to make.”
Jack Black, Kevin Hart, Karen Gillan, and Nick Jonas co-star in the films with the two made so far costing around $100-150 million to make each and both combined have grossed around $1.7 billion dollars at the global box-office.
Meanwhile “Black Adam” premieres in theaters on October 21st.
