Red-Band Trailer: “Children of the Corn”

RLJE Films

RLJE Films and Shudder have premiered the trailer for the new adaptation of Stephen King’s classic short story “Children of the Corn”.

Possessed by a spirit in a dying cornfield, a twelve-year-old girl in Nebraska recruits the other children in her small town to go on a bloody rampage and kill all the adults and anyone else who opposes her. A bright high schooler who won’t go along with the plan is the town’s only hope of survival.

That sounds a bit different to both the short story and the popular 1984 original film adaptation which would spawn a franchise spanning nine films and a TV movie remake.

The project was shot in early-mid 2020 in rural areas several hours outside of Dark Horizons’ homebase in Sydney, Australia. It utilised entirely local cast and crew in outdoor locations and as an independent production wasn’t subject to shutdown rules and regulations during the initial phases of the pandemic.

Elena Kampouris, Kate Moyer, Callan Mulvey, and Bruce Spence star whilst Kurt Wimmer (“Equilibrium”) pens and directs the film, the first time he’s directed a feature since 2006’s Milla Jovovich-led “Ultraviolet”.

The film was sitting on a shelf for over two years until RLJE Films and Shudder picked it up. Now, “Children of the Corn” hits cinemas on March 3rd before arriving On-Demand and Digital on March 21st.
