Australian actress Rebel Wilson has revealed that she auditioned for the next James Bond movie following her stint hosting (and roasting) at the 2022 BAFTA Film Awards – and not she wasn’t joking.
The “Pitch Perfect” and “Cats” star, currently at the Cannes Film Festival with her musical comedy directorial debut “The Deb,” spoke with Variety and revealed prep for the BAFTAs led to her needing to clear some Bond-related jokes with producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson ahead of the awards.
That put her in direct contact with the pair and ultimately led to an audition for a supporting character role: “What was really cool was getting to audition for Bond,” she said and reportedly stressed to the outlet it was for a small role.
The trade adds that the audition reportedly took place last year, and Wilson “played coy about whether or not she landed the gig”. The next instalment of the franchise remains in the script stage with the franchise set to be reinvented with its next incarnation.
Wilson called hosting the BAFTAs one of the hardest gigs as “two hours before, [they were like] ‘Let’s just change everything.’ So I had to get up there and wing it. There was so much chaos in that show.”
Wilson adds her recent 2022 film “Senior Year” was reportedly watched by 89 million unique Netflix users in its first ten days on the platform.
