Ray Winstone’s “Black Widow Role Revealed?

Last year came the news that veteran British actor Ray Winstone had been cast in “Black Widow,” though his role was unknown.

The new film, whilst mostly set in the gap year between ‘Civil War’ and ‘Infinity War,’ is also expected to include flashbacks to the past of Scarlett Johansson’s Natasha Romanoff character and her time as a Russian spy.

Now a new report in Empire (via Cinema Blend claims to have revealed his part – he’s reportedly set to play Dreykov, head of the Red Room, a.k.a. the Black Widow Program which turned young women into trained killers.

If the name sounds familiar, it should. The first “Avengers” back in 2012 saw a conversation between Widow and Loki (Tom Hiddleston) in which he alludes to some dark events from her past, one of them being “Dreykov’s daughter”. It’s likely the new film will illuminate what happened there.

Whether Winstone will be involved only in flashbacks or not is unclear. The recent trailer indicates the film’s villain Taskmaster has taken control of the Red Room, suggesting Dreykov has been killed or has fled in the present.

“Black Widow” still has not yet set a new release date.
