Ray Fisher Denies Cyborg Resignation

The messiness surrounding the “Justice League” reshoots just got more complicated.

In the latter part of 2020, actor Ray Fisher made misconduct allegations against director Joss Whedon, executives Geoff Johns and Jon Berg. More recently he targeted DC Films President Walter Hamada, saying that he will not work with him or participate in any production associated with him.

Then, earlier this week, a report at The Wrap indicated that Fisher would not be reprising the role of Cyborg for the planned “The Flash” movie and the role would not be recast. That project was due to shoot in a few months and had resigned from the part.

Fisher has since posted to Twitter denying that report, saying:

“It is factually inaccurate. I did not publicly step down from anything. If Warner Bros. Pictures has made the decision to remove me from The Flash, rather than address, in any way, Walter Hamada tampering with the JL investigation – that’s on them. The idea of removing the role, rather than recasting it, is only being used to try to avoid public backlash.”

The tweet thread from Fisher then goes on to say: “The Justice League investigation led to Warner Media (and its affiliates) parting ways with Joss Whedon. Geoff Johns will be following suit.”

Now Variety has posted a report disputing that last sentence, saying Geoff Johns will maintain his current position at DC Films and WarnerMedia despite Fisher’s claims.

Johns continues to work as the creator and showrunner for the CW series “Stargirl,” co-wrote the recent film “Wonder Woman 1984” and serves as an executive producer on “Titans,” “Batwoman,” “Doom Patrol” and the upcoming “Superman & Lois”.

WarnerMedia concluded an investigation into Fisher’s claims last month, saying the probe (led by a former federal judge) was conducted by an outside law firm that interviewed more than 80 people. They said in a statement: “We have full confidence in its thoroughness and integrity, and remedial action has been taken. The investigation has concluded, and it is time to move on.”
