One of the bigger tentpoles set to release in Spring next year is a third entry in the “Rocky” spin-off franchise “Creed”.
Both previous films scored much acclaim, but the new entry marks something of a departure with Sylvester Stallone no longer involved and the film marking the directorial debut of its star Michael B. Jordan.
Even so, a lot of the conversation about the film has revolved around its antagonist character Damian ‘Dame’ Anderson played by rising “Lovecraft Country” and “Last Black Man in San Francisco” star Jonathan Majors.
From his recent Men’s Health photo spread that gave large swaths of the Internet satisfaction that morning, to his celebrated performances, there is hope Majors can deliver something the two prior films have been notably lacking so far – a great villain with his character.
Now a new report at World of Reel suggests anticipation should be high for the title because it is allegedly a winner:
“I’ve spoken to a few people who attended a recent test-screening for ‘Creed III’ and they’re absolutely raving about it. They also believe that it is the best film of the trilogy, yes, better than even Ryan Coogler’s 2015 film.
The report goes on to highlight Majors’ performance as stealing the show, saying “Damian is the best villain of the entire franchise” and the screening itself had “[an] electric atmosphere… some of the attendees could be heard rooting, hollering, for Damian to win.”
In the film, Dame was Adonis’ best friend when they were living together in a group home. Fresh out of prison, he’s ready to take on Creed in the film which also stars Tessa Thompson, Wood Harris and Phylicia Rashad.
Florian Munteanu and Tony Bellow, who played Creed’s two prior antagonists Viktor Drago and ‘Pretty’ Ricky Conlan, also return in the new film which premieres March 3rd.
