Filmmaker Brett Ratner has issued a response to comments made earlier this week by actor Vinnie Jones in regards to Jones’ role as Juggernaut in Ratner’s “X-Men: The Last Stand”.
In a fascinating interview, Jones claim his villainous role was heavily watered down from what it was originally intended to be in an earlier incarnation. Jones said “it was a great role and a great script… Ratner basically dissolved the character” and wasn’t what he signed on for.
He went on to say: “they took his storyline away, they’d taken his character away, his dialogue. I had two big meetings with Brett about it, and he said, ‘Yeah, yeah, it’s coming. They’re writing stuff for you as we speak’ and it never f—ing happened.”
Ratner has now taken to Instagram to deliver his response, calling Jones assessment of the situation “inaccurate” and adding:
“I shot the script I was given and I was not able to expand the role of Juggernaut as per Vinnie’s request due to the extremely limited time I had to deliver the film. I have the utmost respect and admiration for Vinnie Jones and his talent and thought he created a memorable character. Hopefully one day we will see a stand-alone Juggernaut film starring #VinnieJones! We can watch it mask free on @disneyplus in a pub near you since there might not be any more movie theaters in the future.”
One of the common criticisms of the film was that it was overstacked with characters, including a lot of new faces, with Juggernaut in particular serving little more than as a grunt for Magneto and his allies. “X-Men: The Last Stand” is currently available to stream on Disney+.
