Ralph Fiennes is attached to star as Miss Trunchbull in the film adaptation of the stage musical adaptation of Roald Dahl’s novel “Matilda” for Netflix and Working Title.
Matilda follows the story of a young bookworm prodigy mistreated by her ignorant parents. At a school run by abusive headmistress Miss Trunchbull (Fiennes), she finds a kindred spirit in her teacher, Miss Honey.
Matthew Warchus (“Pride”) directs the film from a script by Dennis Kelly. Sony will release the feature theatrically in the UK with Netflix handling it everywhere else, but no production start date has yet been set.
Netflix has been planning to adapt Dahl’s catalog of children’s stories into a new slate of animated projects for some time.
