Out doing promotional rounds for “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness,” filmmaker Sam Raimi revealed that a new take on his first superhero movie “Darkman” is seemingly on the way.
The 1990 original starred Liam Neeson and Frances McDormand and blended elements of Universal classic monster movies (namely “Frankenstein”), noir thrillers, and superheroes with the original “The Shadow” radio serial being the obvious one.
Asked by The Wrap whether or not there is a possibility for a new installment, Raimi surprisingly answered in the affirmative:
“Yes. Universal is talking about a ‘Darkman’ sequel. There’s a producer attached. I haven’t heard the story yet or gone into it, I’ve been so busy with this movie. But I think it’s cool.”
Universal has not yet officially announced any plans to continue the “Darkman” franchise. The original had hoped to be a franchise launcher but the disappointing box office put a stop to that, condemning the film to two cheap direct-to-video sequels with Arnold Vosloo replacing Neeson.
Raimi says if Neeson were up for it, he love to have him back: “I don’t know if he’d do it, but he’d be incredible.” Raimi was also asked if he still wanted to do a movie based on “The Shadow” property one day to which he “gave an emphatic ‘Yes'” according to the report.
“Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” is now in cinemas.
