Scottish-born Australian film and television director George Trumbull Miller, not to be confused with fellow Australian filmmaker and “Mad Max” director Dr. George Miller, has died of a heart attack in a hospital in Melbourne. He was 79.

Often dubbed ‘the other George Miller’, this Miller left his own indelible mark on the face of Australian cinema as the director of the iconic 1982 western drama “The Man From Snowy River”.

Miller got his start on numerous famed Australian television shows including “The Box” and “The Sullivans” along with mini-series like “Against the Wind” and “The Last Outlaw”.

He broke through in film with ‘Snowy River’ which adapted the famed Banjo Paterson work and starred Tom Burlinson, Kirk Douglas, Jack Thompson, Sigrid Thornton and Lorraine Bayly. That film, was briefly the highest-grossing film in Australia until it was overtaken by “E.T.: The Extra Terrestrial”.

Miller also directed 1990’s “The NeverEnding Story II: The Next Chapter,” the sequel to Wolfgang Petersen’s famed 1984 family feature.

Other works included the infamous Barry Humphries comedy “Les Patterson Saves the World,” the Steve Guttenberg-led family tale “Zeus and Roxanne,” the Jimmy Smits & Naomi Watts erotic thriller “Gross Misconduct,” the Pierce Brosnan-led “Robinson Crusoe” adaptation, the Xmas telemovies “In the Nick of Time” and “A Mom for Christmas”.

He is survived by his sons Harvey and Geordie.
