R.I.P. Quibi

It’s official, Quibi is no more with the app for the mobile only streaming service no longer operable as of today (December 1st).

This marks the a quiet end to Jeffrey Katzenberg and Meg Whitman’s ill-fated $1.75 billion experiment to capture the subscription streaming market via high-budget ‘quick bite’ original series with episodes under ten minutes.

The Quibi app will remain on users’ devices until they delete it, and the app no longer allows users to sign in (returning an error message if they try to) or access any Quibi content.

The shutdown comes almost eight months after the service’s debut on April 6th. The service saw a dramatic drop in subscribers after its 90-day trial offered at launch ended, and the loss of billions of dollars in its first quarter.
