Swedish actor Michael Nyqvist has died at age 56 following a battle with lung cancer. Nyqvist is survived by his wife and two children.
Making a name for himself on 1997 Swedish cop drama series “Beck,” Nyqvist followed that up with a notable film career before breaking out internationally in the leading male role of Mikael Blomkvist in the Swedish-language trilogy based on Stieg Larsson’s “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo” novels.
Nyqvist turned that part into several Hollywood roles including the villains in “Abduction” and “Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol,” and a memorable turn as crimelord Viggo Tarasov in “John Wick”.
Recent roles have included Matthew Ross’ “Frank and Lola” and Florian Gallenberger’s “Colonia”.
