Famed comedy actress Kirstie Alley has died at the age of 71. Alley was reportedly surrounded by her closest family when she passed.
In a posting via her official Instagram account, it has been revealed that she passed away after a battle with an only recently discovered cancer.
Kansas-born Alley made her debut in 1982’s masterpiece “Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan” as Vulcan Starfleet officer Lieutenant Saavik. She didn’t reprise the role for the next two films, opting to do numerous smaller films, including “Runaway,” “Summer School,” “Champions” and “Blind Date” along with the “North and South” mini-series.
She really broke out in the late 1980s with her role in “Cheers” for which she won an Emmy award, along with scoring a smash hit in cinemas with “Look Who’s Talking” and its less well-received sequels.
She appeared in various other films in the 1990s, including John Carpenter’s “Village of the Damned” remake, the Amish comedy “For Richer or Poorer,” and the acclaimed pitch-dark beauty pageant comedy “Drop Dead Gorgeous”.
In the late 1990s, she led her own sitcom with the comedy “Veronica’s Closet” and appeared on TV throughout the 2000s in telemovies and guest starring roles.
