Famed British actress Helen McCrory, most recently a regular as Polly Gray on the “Peaky Blinders” series, has died at the age of 52.
McCrory passed away after a “heroic battle” with cancer says her husband, former “Homeland” star Damian Lewis. In a statement he says she died peacefully at home, surrounded by a wave of love from friends and family.
McCrory was famed for playing formidable and fearless women, but was incredibly adept at conveying empathy and cheekiness when the scene called for it.
On film she’s starred in the likes of “Skyfall,” “The Queen,” “Fantastic Mr. Fox,” “The Count of Monte Cristo,” “Becoming Jane,” “Hugo,” “Their Finest,” “The Woman in Black: Angel of Death” and the regular role of Narcissa Malfoy in the “Harry Potter” films.
McCrory is mostly known for her stage and television work where she has won a bunch of acting awards. On TV her work spans “Penny Dreadful,” “The Fragile Heart,” “Doctor Who,” “Roadkill,” “MotherFatherSon,” “Quiz,” “Fearless,” “The Jury,” “Anna Karenina,” “North Square,” “Trial and Retribution,” “Life” and more.
McCrory was also known for her charity work, including FeedNHS which provided meals for frontline health care workers during the coronavirus pandemic.
