R.I.P. Coolio

Grammy-winning Compton rapper and actor Coolio has died at the age of 59.

Coolio’s manager, Jarez Posey, tells TMZ that Coolio died Wednesday afternoon at a friend’s house in Los Angeles, saying: “As far as what I know now is that he was at a friend’s house and was in his bathroom and had a heart attack.”

In the film world the musician, born Artis Leon Ivey Jr., is best remembered for the hit “Gangsta’s Paradise,” which became famous for its inclusion on the soundtrack of 1995’s Michelle Pfieffer-led film “Dangerous Minds”.

He turned that success into a pretty solid film career with appearances in “Batman & Robin,” “Daredevil,” “Perfume,” “Leprechaun in the Hood,” “Get Over It,” “Three Days to Vegas” and TV appearances in “The Nanny,” “Futurama,” “Joey,” “Charmed,” “Arli$$,” “VIP,” “Sabrina: the Teenage Witch” and more. He also created the theme song for “Kenan & Kel”.

According to his official site, he has sold more than 17 million records. Our sincerest condolences go out to his family and friends.
