Veteran character actor Mark Margolis, famed for his performance as the wheelchair bound and bell-ringing drug runner Hector ‘Tio’ Salamanca on AMC’s “Breaking Bad” and “Better Call Saul,” has died. He was 83.
His son, actor and Knitting Factory Entertainment CEO Morgan Margolis, revealed the news saying Margolis passed away yesterday at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City following a short illness.
Margolis’ other famed roles included Bolivian henchman Alberto the Shadow in Brian De Palma’s “Scarface,” HIV-infected mob boss Antonio Nappa on HBO’s “Oz,” the landlord Mr. Shickadance in “Ace Ventura: Pet Detective” and a half dozen Darren Aronofsky movies.
Margolis was also a lifetime member of The Actors Strudio where he served as the legendary Stella Adler’s personal assistant for nearly three years.
Other roles included “Dressed to Kill,” “Arthur,” “Going in Style,” “The Secret of My Success,” “1492: Conquest of Paradise,” “The Cotton Club,” “The Tailor of Panama,” “Absolute Power,” “The Thomas Crown Affair,” “End of Days,” “Gone Baby Gone,” “Defiance,” a recurring role on CBS’ original “The Equalizer,” and guest roles on shows like “Law & Order,” “Californication,” “Person of Interest,” “Star Trek: The Next Generation,” “American Horror Story, “”The Affair” and “Your Honor”.
Margolis is survived by his wife, son, brother and grandsons.
