John Wick Samurai Film
A feature piece in Variety talking about screenwriters to watch indicates that Austin Everett has penned an “original samurai Western set in the John Wick universe”. Asked for more, he says, “That’s probably as much as I can say”. [Source: Variety]

Freakier Friday
Disney has finally announced the home video release of “Freakier Friday” with the title set to hit digital next week on October 7th. It will then be followed by a 4K, Blu-ray and DVD release on November 11th.

The release will include ten deleted or extended scenes, three featurettes and a lyric music video. During its theatrical run, the movie earned a worldwide gross of over $152 million at the box office against a reported budget of around $42-45 million. [Source: Disney]

The Chi
Lena Waithe‘s “The Chi” will officially end with its upcoming eighth season, tying with “Dexter,” “Homeland” and “Weeds” as the second-longest-running shows in the premium network’s history (“Shameless” is first). It’s also the longest-running Black drama on premium cable or streaming.

Waithe says in a statement: “After much reflection, we have made the decision to end The Chi with season 8. I know, for the sake of our story and our characters, it’s the right thing. I am committed to delivering a final season that our Chi Family deserves.” [Source: Showtime]

The Beekeeper 2
Pom Klementieff (“Mission: Impossible”) and pro wrestler-turned-actor Adam Copeland (“Percy Jackson and the Olympians”) mark the latest to join the cast of the Jason Statham-starring action thriller “The Beekeeper 2”.

The story continues about a former government assassin who comes out of retirement in a quest for vengeance. Jeremy Irons, Emmy Raver-Lampman, Bobby Naderi and Jemma Redgrave will also reprise their roles in the sequel which is being helmed by Timo Tjahjanto (“Nobody 2”). [Source: Variety]
