Nine Perfect Strangers
Samara Weaving (“Ready or Not”) has signed on for one of the nine leading roles in Hulu’s limited series adaptation of Liane Moriarty’s novel “Nine Perfect Strangers”. Weaving is set to portray the role of Jessica, a plastic-surgery obsessed lottery winner.

Set at a boutique health-and-wellness resort, nine stressed city dwellers try to get on a path to a better way of living. Nicole Kidman, Melissa McCarthy, Luke Evans, Manny Jacinto and Melvin Gregg co-star. The series will debut on Hulu in 2021. [Source: Deadline]

The Stand-In
Saban Films has acquired North American rights to Jamie Babbit’s comedy “The Stand-In” starring Drew Barrymore. The story follows a disaffected comedy actress busted for tax evasion and her adoring, ambitious stand-in who she hires to do community service in her place.

A co-dependent relationship ensues as the actress begins to use the stand-in in all parts of her life to escape from the stressful demands of fame. Eventually, the stand-in starts to take the actress’s identity, career, and boyfriend and finally kicks her out of her own house. Michael Zegen, Ellie Kemper, T.J. Miller and Holland Taylor co-star. Mars 2080
Imagine Documentaries and Procter & Gamble have brokered a significant co-financing deal for a slate of film and streaming projects. The first is “Mars 2080,” a future-set feature that will follow a family’s commute from Earth to the red planet and the adjustment to their new habitat.

The project will be released through Imagine’s documentary label because the film will endeavor to be as fact-based as possible in thinking about the future. The film is targeting a late 2021 theatrical release and the likes of Brian Grazer, Ron Howard and Justin Wilkes will produce. [Source: Heat Vision]

Monsterland
“Star Wars” actress Kelly Marie Tran has joined Hulu and Annapurna Television’s anthology drama series “Monsterland” based on the collection of stories from Nathan Ballingrud. Mary Laws serves as showrunner.

The series is set in a world that involves encounters with fantasy creatures like mermaids and fallen angels, and follows broken people driven to desperate acts in an attempt to repair their lives. Kaitlyn Dever, Taylor Schilling and Mike Colter also star. [Source: The Live Feed]
