Scott Pilgrim
Filmmaker Edgar Wright has announced that 2010’s “Scott Pilgrim vs. the World,” a filmadaptation of the comics, will be getting a theatrical re-release this August for its tenth anniversary. Wright participated in a tweet-along of the beloved cult film and says: “If you thought watching Scott Pilgrim from home was great, wait until it’s back @DolbyCinema, only in theatres.” [Source: EW]
Netflix
Netflix has announced that subscribers who joined at least a year ago and haven’t watched anything in that time will start receiving email and app notifications asking if they want to continue their service.
If they don’t respond, Netflix will stop charging them and suspend the accounts. The streaming giant says these subscribers make up less than 0.5% of all its customers. Netflix will also notify subscribers who haven’t watched shows for more than two years. [Source: CNBC]
Capone
Vertical Entertainment has announced that Josh Trank’s “Capone” starring Tom Hardy has pulled in more than $2.5 million over the first ten days of release on VOD – a number they are very pleased with. In a statement, they say: “Although we wish the film could have premiered in theaters as originally intended, we could not be more thrilled with the success of the VOD home premiere.” [Source: Deadline]
Spellbound
Oscar-winning composer Alan Menken has signed on to pen and compose the music for Skydance Animation’s forthcoming musical animated film “Spellbound”. Menken will also be reuniting with long-time collaborators and fellow Grammy-winners Glenn Slater and Chris Montan – the trio having worked together on “The Little Mermaid” and “Tangled”. Spellbound will follow the story of a young who must break the spell that has split her kingdom in two. [Source: Deadline]
