Quick News: Knight, Maverick, Red, Mutants

The Green Knight
David Lowery’s medieval fantasy adventure “The Green Knight,” starring Dev Patel as Sir Gawain, will host its world premiere at this year’s South by Southwest Film Festival on March 16th, well ahead of its May 29th theatrical release.

Despite a petition signed by 15,000 people to cancel this year’s SXSW due to concerns over the coronavirus, the festival is still scheduled to take place as planned in Austin this month from March 13th-22nd. Alicia Vikander and Joel Edgerton co-star in the film. [Source: SXSW]

Top Gun: Maverick
Paramount and Skydance have announced that the long-awaited sequel “Top Gun: Maverick” will open Wednesday, June 24th instead of Friday, June 26th as originally planned.

The film hits in a crowded pre-Independence Day weekend with “Trolls World Tour,” “In the Heights,” “Free Guy” and “Minions: The Rise of Gru” all hitting either that weekend or the July 4th holiday. [Source: Paramount Pictures]

Red Notice
With reports of the spread of coronavirus in Italy, Netflix is reportedly being forced to look for a new location to shoot Rawson Marshall Thurber’s action heist thriller “Red Notice” starring Dwayne Johnson, Ryan Reynolds and Gal Gadot.

The bulk of the film is set to shoot in Atlanta, but due to the nature of the story the film is supposed to film in Italy for a period. Where it might shift to is unclear, but it follows in the wake of production on “Mission: Impossible 7” halting due to having to similarly scrap plans for a two-week shoot in Venice. The New Mutants
20th Century Studios has released a new TV spot for the “X-Men” spin-off “The New Mutants,” the last of the pre-Disney X-Men films. Anya Taylor-Joy, Maisie Williams, Charlie Heaton, Blu Hunt, Henry Zaga and Alice Braga co-star in the film about a group of teenage mutants incarcerated for psychiatric monitoring in an isolated hospital that’s very much up to no good. It opens April 3rd.
