The American Film Institute announced this afternoon that Clint Eastwood’s “Richard Jewell” will have its world premiere at the 2019 AFI Fest next month with the feature to have a gala presentation on Wednesday, November 20th.
The announcement follows on from one earlier in the week that Apple’s “The Banker” starring Samuel L. Jackson and Anthony Mackie will close the festival the following night on November 21st. That project is set as Apple’s first theatrical release before eventually debuting on the company’s new Apple TV+ app. [Source: The Playlist]
Celebrated filmmaker Francis Ford Coppola has signed with agency CAA in an attempt to ensure that his two decades in development passion project, “Megalopolis,” will get financing and distribution.
The story is expected to tell the story of a master architect and city designer that aims to create a utopia in New York City. Jude Law and Shia LaBeouf have been approached for roles. Coppola has been around a lot lately with restorations and new cuts of both “Apocalypse Now” and “The Cotton Club”. [Source: Deadline}
Fox Searchlight has unveiled a new clip from Taika Waititi’s acclaimed but divisive Nazi-themed black comedy “JoJo Rabbit”. The footage has Scarlett Johannsson’s Rosie Betzler warning Sam Rockwell’s Captain Klenzendorf to carefully look after her son Jojo (Roman Griffin Davis) while she’s at work.
Rebel Wilson, Thomasin McKenzie, Alfie Allen and Stephen Merchant co-star in the WW2 satire in which Waititi himself plays an imaginary friend version of Hitler to the young Jojo. The film hits cinemas October 18th.
Sony Pictures has premiered the first poster for “The Grudge,” the reboot of the American remake of the famed Japanese supernatural horror series. Lin Shaye, Demian Bichir, Andrea Riseborough, John Cho, Betty Gilpin, Jacki Weaver and Frankie Faison co-star in the film opening January 3rd.
Talking it up at New York Comic Con this past weekend, director Nicholas Pesce says the aim is not to rehash the same stories as before and this boasts a whole new story even as it visually and stylistically pays homage to the old films

Also today, Warner Bros. Pictures has released a new poster for the “Doctor Sleep” film, this one teasing Danny Torrance (Ewan McGregor) returning to the Overlook Hotel where his nightmare began and soon may never end. Rebecca Ferguson and newcomer Kyliegh Curran star in the supernatural thriller from helmer Mike Flanagan with the feature opening November 8th.
