Wild Horse Nine
“The Banshees Of Inisherin” and “In Bruges” director Martin McDonagh‘s next movie, “Wild Horse Nine,” has been set for a November 6th release date by Searchlight.
Set in 1973 Chile in the wake of the agency’s coup to overthrow the Chilean government, the story follows two CIA agents who head to Easter Island. John Malkovich, Sam Rockwell, Steve Buscemi, Mariana di Girolamo, Ailín Salas, Tom Waits, and Parker Posey star. [Source: The Playlist]
Acquisitions
A couple of smaller distributor acqusitions today, starting with Vertical snagging the U.S. rights to the $150 million-budgeted, Saudi-backed and Anthony Mackie-led “Desert Warrior” which was shot back in 2021 and underwent major reworking in post-production.
Next, Sumerian Pictures has acquired U.S. rights for Sundance winner “Josephine” in a big deal that sees a major theatrical release and awards campaign commitment. Finally, Gregg Araki’s kinky thriller “I Want Your Sex,” starring Olivia Wilde and Cooper Hoffman, has landed at Magnolia Pictures. No date for it has yet been set. [Source: World of Reel]
Hungry
The first photo is out from “Hungry,” a Malta-shot survival thriller from filmmaker James Nunn. Madison Davenport, Joaquim de Almeida, Tracey Bonner, Jim Meskimen, Samantha Coughlan and Olivia Bernstone co-star.
The story centers on a group of holidaymakers that must fight for their lives against a rampaging hippo on the loose after becoming lost in the Louisiana swamplands. The film is being sold at the EFM.

Untitled Sean Baker Next
Oscar-winning “Anora” filmmaker Sean Baker has revealed the first details of what his next indie feature film be while speaking at the Berlin Film Festival. Baker says: “It’s my love letter to the Italian sex comedies of the ’60s and ’70s, so I’m leaning into that. We want to shoot this year.” No specific title has been revealed.
Baker was there for a Q&A over his collaboration with Michelle Yeoh on “Sandiwara,” a short film made for London fashion house ‘self-portrait’ which goes into the world of Malaysian culture. That got a special screening at Berlinale on Friday. [Source: Variety
