Fiddler on the Roof
MGM will turn iconic stage musical “Fiddler On The Roof” into a feature film to be directed by Thomas Kail (“Fosse/Verdon,” “Grease Live,” the upcoming “Hamilton” stage film). Kail will produce with Dan Jinks and Aaron Harnick. Steven Levenson will write it. The original musical opened on Broadway in 1964 and won nine Tony Awards, and was previously adapted for the screen by Norman Jewison in 1971. [Source: Deadline]
The Magus
Emmy-winning director Johan Renck (“Chernobyl”) is in talks to adapt the bizarre 1965 cult novel “The Magus” by John Fowles into a miniseries for Neal Street Productions (“1917”).
The story follows a British schoolteacher teaching English in Greece who gets entangled with the mindgames of a mysterious old recluse. The story deals with unreliable narration and perspectives, meta-realities, and is widely open to interpretation. [Source: Collider]
The Blue Afternoon That Lasted Forever
Paramount Pictures has picked up “Robopocalypse” author Daniel H. Wilson’s sci-fi spec script “The Blue Afternoon That Lasted Forever” with Andrew Form and Brad Fuller (“A Quiet Place”) set to produce at Fully Formed Entertainment.
Adapted from Wilson’s own short story, the tale follows a single dad and NASA physicist who discovers a black hole that will strike earth in a matter of days. Trouble is no one, including his colleagues at NASA, believes him aside from his ten-year-old daughter. [Source: Variety]
The Menu
“Succession” producer Adam McKay and series director Mark Mylod are in negotiations for the latter to direct the dark comedy “The Menu” with McKay producing for his Hyperobject Industries label. Betsy Koch will also produce.
The darkly comedic psychological thriller is set in the world of eccentric culinary culture, centering on a young couple who visit an exclusive restaurant on a remote island where an acclaimed chef has prepared a lavish tasting menu. Will Tracy and Seth Reiss penned the script. [Source: Variety]
