Father and Soldier
“Lupin” star Omar Sy is re-teaming with Gaumont on the politically-minded $14 million WWI action-drama “Father & Soldier” which deals with Africa’s forgotten war heroes. Mathieu Vadepied is directing.
Shooting now in France and set in the colony of Senegal, Sy plays a father who enlists in the army to stick by his 17-year-old son who was recruited against his will. [Source: Variety]
Thesis
Sentient Entertainment has scored English-language remake rights to “The Others” director Alejandro Amenabar’s 1996 horror-thriller “Thesis”. Renee Tab, Lucas Akoskin, and Christopher Tuffin will produce.
The original centered on Angela (Ana Torrent), a student writing a thesis about violence, who comes upon a snuff video where a girl is tortured to death, soon discovering that the victim was an alumna of her school. [Source: Deadline]
The Seminarian
Divine Write Pictures has optioned film, TV and digital rights to Patrick Parr’s 2018 novel “The Seminarian” with plans for a TV series adaptation in the works. Lawrence Watford, Jack Manning III, and Tiffany Elle Burgess will produce for Tyler Street Films.
The story explores Martin Luther King’s Jr. life as a student at Crozer Theological Seminary in Pennsylvania and his romance with a white woman, Betty Moitz, who was the daughter of the school dietitian. [Source: Deadline]
Mr. Harrigan’s Phone
Joe Tippett (“Mare of Easttown”) has joined the cast of an adaptation of Stephen King’s short story “Mr. Harrigan’s Phone” which John Lee Hancock is directing for Netflix. Tippett is set to play the father of Craig (Jaeden Martell) alongside Donald Sutherland as the film’s titular reclusive billionaire. [Source: Collider]
