Baz Luhrmann’s rock-and-roll legend biopic “Elvis,” starring Austin Butler and Tom Hanks, will world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival. The premiere comes a month ahead of the film’s June 24th release and marks Luhrmann’s first film since 2013’s “The Great Gatsby”. [Source: Festival de Cannes]
Nancy Meyers
After a seven-year absence since 2015’s “The Intern,” filmmaker Nancy Meyers (“Father of the Bride,” “What Women Want”) is returning. Meyers will write, direct and produce a feature comedy for Netflix, but the plot and title are under wraps. [Source: THR]
Cinnamon
Damon Wayans and Pam Grier have signed on to star alongside Hailey Kilgore, David Iacono and Jeremie Harris in the noir thriller “Cinnamon” to debut on Tubi later this year.
The film is shooting in Atlanta and follows a struggling small-town gas station attendant and aspiring singer (Kilgore) whose life is sent into a tailspin during a robbery at work. Wayans plays a convenience store owner, Grier is a criminal kingpin named ‘Mama’. [Source: Deadline]
Warner Bros. Discovery
The Discovery-WarnerMedia merger could close as early as Friday, earlier than previous suggestions of it being formally completed on Monday April 11th.
Earlier today WarnerMedia CEO Jason Kilar formally announced his exit ahead of the formation of Warner Bros. Discovery which is expected to see David Zaslav take over as CEO. HBO Max and Discovery Plus are expected to be eventually combined into one platform under Warner Bros. Discovery. [Source: Variety]
