Donkey Kong
A new report indicates Nintendo is powering forward with a previously rumored “The Super Mario Bros. Movie” spin-off focused on Donkey Kong. Scooper DanielRPK is claiming that the film has been given the goahead at Universal Pictures, but no further details are available at this time. The film joins next year’s “The Super Mario Galaxy Movie” and a live-action “The Legend of Zelda” film currently in the works. [Source: DanielRPK]
Everybody Wants To F–k Me
Taron Egerton and Jessica Henwick are set to star in the comedy thriller “Everybody Wants To F–k Me” at Studiocanal, LuckyChap, Film4 and Parkville Pictures. The London-set story is set in the world of modern dating and begins shooting there next month. Jonathan Schey directs from a script he also wrote while Cecilia Frugiuele and Olivier Kaempfer will produce. [Source: Deadline]
The Beatles
Oscar nominee Saoirse Ronan has closed a deal to play photographer, musician and animal rights activist Linda McCartney, the late first wife of The Beatles’ Paul McCartney, in Sam Mendes’ four-film “The Beatles” project. Each of the films focuses on a different member of the band.
Ronan joins a cast that includes Paul Mescal as Paul McCartney, Barry Keoghan as Ringo Starr, Joseph Quinn as George Harrison, and Harris Dickinson as John Lennon. Mendes will direct from scripts written by Jez Butterworth, Peter Straughan and Jack Thorne. [Source: Deadline]
Red Dead Redemption 2
A new report claims that proper current gen remasters of Rockstar Games’ “Red Dead Redemption 2,” updating the 2018 title to make full use of PS5, Xbox Series X and Nintendo Switch 2, “exist” but there’s still no “update on timing for release”.
Former Rockstar boss Dan Houser, who worked at the company from 1998 to 2020, recently said he thought the game was the best title he worked on at the studio. [Source: Nate the Hate, IGN]
Jack of Spades
A first photo of “Wake Up Dead Man” and “Challengers” star Josh O’Connor in full costume on Joel Coen’s “Jack of Spades” has emerged via set photos of filming in Glasgow. Lesley Manville, Frances McDormand, and Damien Lewis co-star in the ‘gothic mystery’ set in 1880s Scotland. Bruno Delbonnel serves as cinematographer while Joel also wrote the script.
