Welcome to Derry
Madeleine Stowe (“Revenge”) and Stephen Rider (“Daredevil”) have joined the cast of the “IT” prequel series “Welcome to Derry” at Max (formerly HBO Max).
They join Taylour Paige, Jovan Adepo, Chris Chalk and James Remar in the series expected to primarily take place in the early 1960s. Stowe will appear in a recurring guest role, while Rider is a series regular. [Source: TV Line]
Hedda
Tessa Thompson is set to play Hedda Gabler in “Candyman” and “The Marvels” director Nia DaCosta’s upcoming film “Hedda” Orion Pictures and Plan B.
The project is an “epic and visceral reimagination” of Henrik Ibsen’s 1891 stage play about the daughter of a general, who is trapped in a marriage and a house that she does not want. [Source: THR]
Wings of Desire
Filmmaker Ashley Avis (“Black Beauty”) has been set to write and direct the romance drama “City of Angels,” a remake of Wim Wenders’ classic “Wings of Desire,” for Warner Bros, Atlas Entertainment and Perez Pictures.
This reimagining follows the journey of a guardian angel who falls in love with a mortal man – a lonely jazz musician in Manhattan she is tasked to guide. Nicolas Cage and Meg Ryan starred in a prior remake in 1998. [Source: Deadline]
Creature Commandos
James Gunn has shot down a rumor that “Hellboy” actor Ron Perlman will have a role in the upcoming DC “Creature Commandos” series, which debuts in 2024 and stars the voices of Viola Davis, David Harbour, Sean Gunn, Frank Grillo, Indira Varma, Alan Tudyk and more.
Gunn says while Perlman is an actor he loves, he “isn’t on the show, and he and I never even talked about him being on the show.” He adds: “It might be better if folks stopped believing rumors. If it doesn’t come from me or DC, it’s not to be believed.” [Source: Twitter]
Peter Pan and Wendy
A new behind-the-scenes featurette is out for David Lowery and Disney’s live-action film adaptation of “Peter Pan and Wendy”, which will be available for streaming on the Disney+ service on April 28th.
The clip includes Peter Pan dueling with Captain Hook and offers commentary with the director and cast – talking about how this differs from previous adaptations. The story includes Jude Law as Captain Hook, Alexander Molony as Peter Pan, Ever Anderson as Wendy Darling and Yara Shahidi as Tinkerbell.
