Eleven Days
Taylor Kitsch (“John Carter,” “American Primeval”) will star in the true story-inspired and Peter Landesman-directed thriller “Eleven Days” based on the book by William T. Harper. Kevin Sheridan penned the script and filming begins in Texas in September with Vincent Newman and Vance Howard producing.

Set in 1974, the story follows Texas Department of Corrections chief Jim Estelle (Kitsch) as he tries to end a hostage taking in the Huntsville Penitentiary led by heroin kingpin Federico Carrasco as part of an escape plan gone wrong. [Source: Variety]

Winter Games
Hailee Steinfeld (“Sinners,” “Hawkeye”) will star with Miles Teller in the sporty romantic comedy “Winter Games” at Paramount Pictures. Paul Downs Colaizzo (“Brittany Runs a Marathon”) directs from a script he co-wrote with Patrick Cunnane.

The story is set in the high-stakes arena of the Winter Olympic Games and follows a perpetually overlooked skier and a self-sabotaging hockey legend that collide at their breaking points. Their unexpected connection threatens her chance for a medal and his shot at a comeback. Tim and Trevor White are producing. [Source: THR]

Jaume Collet-Serra
Following their major success last year with “Carry-On,” filmmaker Jaume Collet-Serra will re-team with Netflix – signing a multi-year deal to produce and direct films for the streamer.

The first film is the psychological thriller “An Innocent Girl” about a young and ambitious woman seduced by a high powered D.C. couple who draw her into a dangerous world of sex, power and murder. Collet-Serra also helmed “The Shallows,” “Black Adam,” “Jungle Cruise,” “Orphan,” “The Woman in the Yard,” “House of Wax,” “Non-Stop,” “The Commuter” and the upcoming “Cliffhanger” reinvention. Rental Family
Searchlight Pictures has set a November 21st release for the Brendan Fraser-led “Rental Family” directed by Hikari (“Beef,’ “37 Seconds”) and set in Japan. Fraser is reportedly a potential awards contender for his work here.

Fraser plays a washed-up American actor living in Tokyo who finds unexpected purpose working as a ‘rental family member’ – actors are hired to play roles in the lives of lonely or grieving clients. What begins as a transactional gig slowly unravels into something more intimate, raw, and cathartic. [Source: World of Reel]

The Backrooms
Avan Jogia (“Now Apocalypse”), Mark Duplass (“The Morning Show”), Finn Bennett (“True Detective”) and Lukita Maxwell (“Shrinking”) are all joining Chiwetel Ejiofor and Renate Reinsve in “The Backrooms” film at A24, Chernin Entertainment, 21 Laps and Atomic Monster.

20-year-old Kane Parsons will direct the project which began production this week in Canada. Will Soodik penned the script with story details under wraps beyond it being based on the viral YouTube horror series. Shawn Levy and James Wan are among the many producers. [Source: THR]
