Filmmaker James Cameron has made the surprising reveal that one of his guilty pleasures is 2002’s “Resident Evil,” the first film adaptation of the famed horror game franchise. Cameron says: “One of my guilty-pleasure films that I actually think is quite beautifully made is Resident Evil. Flint Strong
Judy Greer has joined the cast of “Flint Strong” for Universal Pictures. “Black Panther” cinematographer Rachel Morrison is making her feature directorial debut on the project which Oscar winner Barry Jenkins penned based on the 2015 boxing documentary “T-REX”.
That doco follows 17-year-old Claressa ‘T-REX’ Shields, a Flint Michigan native whose dreams of becoming the first woman in history to win an Olympic gold medal in Boxing are realized at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London. A Horse Walks Into A Bar
Mark Duplass has been set to direct the film adaptation of David Grossman’s 2017 Man Booker prize winning short novel “A Horse Walks Into a Bar” at Village Roadshow.
The story follows a stand-up comic over the course of one evening’s performance. As barbs fly back and forth, a deeper story begins to take shape — one that alters the lives of many of those in attendance and leads to a series of candid and chilling revelations about his past. [Source: THR]
The Tax Collector
David Ayer’s new gritty indie thriller “The Tax Collector” has been acquired by RLJE Films with plans to release the movie in cinemas this August. Ayer wrote the script for the film which co-stars George Lopez and Cinthya Carmona.
The story follows David (Bobby Soto) and Creeper (Shia LaBeouf), who works as ‘tax collectors’ for a crime lord named Wizard, collecting his cut from the profits of local gangs. But when Wizard’s old rival returns to Los Angeles, his entire business is upended and David finds himself desperate to protect his family. [Source: Deadline]
Where I End
Recent “Black Christmas” remake director Sophia Takal has been set to direct “Where I End,” a sci-fi thriller penned by Imran Zaidi and setup at Netflix and Vertigo Entertainment. Roy Lee, Miri Yoon, Nate Matteson and Hiro Murai will produce.
The story is set in a world where your memories and life can be saved, uploaded to a computer and restarted in the case of your death. The project follows a husband that returns from the dead, suspecting his loving wife may have been involved in his death and must uncover the truth before it’s too late. [Source: Heat Vision]
Girl A 3000
Johan Renck (“Chernobyl,” “Vikings,” “Breaking Bad”) is in negotiations to direct and executive produce the limited series “Girl A” for 3000 Pictures and Sony Pictures. Elizabeth Gabler produces.
The series is adapted from the upcoming novel by Abigail Dean, a drama following a successful New York lawyer who was the subject of national news as a child for her escape from a family of religious fanatics. Following her mother’s death, she soon discovers she can’t run from her past, and must revisit the childhood she shared with her siblings. [Source: Variety]
