Bette Midler, Ron Livingston, Aaron Dominguez, and Maia Mitchell have joined the cast of the Trish Sie-directed rom-com “Sitting in Bars With Cake” at Amazon Studios.
Based on a true story, the story follows a quiet young woman who is unlucky in love and discovers an unlikely guy magnet when she bakes a cake for her best friend’s birthday and brings it to a bar – only to be swarmed by men. [Source: Deadline]
Iron Widow
Picturestart has scored screen rights to Xiran Jay Zhao’s best-selling sci-fi novel “Iron Widow” with plans for a franchise based on the property. J.C. Lee will adapt the script.
The book is set in a fictional world where giant transforming robots requiring a boy-girl pair to pilot are the only hope against aliens. The pairing drains the life force of the girls, and one female pilot joins the program to assassinate the male pilot responsible for her sister’s death. [Source: Variety]
Horizon
Veteran actor Jeff Fahey has joined the cast of the Kevin Costner-directed western “Horizon” which began production last month on location in Utah.
Horizon chronicles a multi-faceted 15-year span of pre- and post-Civil War expansion and settlement of the American West. The cast includes Jamie Campbell Bower, Luke Wilson, Jena Malone, Alejandro Edda, Tatanka Means, Michael Rooker, Sienna Miller, Sam Worthington and Thomas Haden Church. [Source: Deadline]
Space Cadet
Gabrielle Union, Tom Hopper, Sebastian Yatra, David Foley and Desi Lydic will join Emma Roberts in the Liz. W. Garcia-directed plucky comedy feature “Space Cadet” at Stampede Ventures. Filming will begin next week.
Roberts plays a Florida party girl who turns out to be the only hope for the NASA space program after a fluke puts her in training with other candidates. Greg Silverman and Jon Berg will produce. [Spource: Variety]
Encanto
Disney Music Group and Tony award-winning company Deaf West Theatre have teamed for an American Sign Language version of the acclaimed song “We Don’t Talk About Bruno” from Walt Disney Animation’s “Encanto”.
The sung English lyrics were translated by a team of sign language choreographers who worked through the text to find an accurate signed translation in both American Sign Language and Colombian Sign Language.
