Bella
Samara Weaving is set to star in the Larysa Kondracki-directed hyper-stylized action-thriller “Bella” at Paramount Pictures and 87Eleven. Jason Markarian penned the most recent draft with Jesse Wigutow handling revisions whilst Craig Flores (“Crawl”) and “John Wick” helmer Chad Stahleski are producing.
Set against the backdrop of a crime wave that gripped New York City in the 1980s, Bella is a cop’s daughter who, as her father clings to life following an assassination attempt, goes on a rampage to unearth her father’s attacker and weed out deep-rooted corruption in the NYPD. [Source: Deadline]
Ash
Aaron Paul and Eiza Gonzalez are attached to star in the sci-fi thriller “Ash,” replacing Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Tessa Thompson in the film that hails from rapper and filmmaker Flying Lotus. Jonni Remmler penned the script.
Gonzalez will play a woman who wakes up on a distant planet and finds the crew of her space station viciously killed. She must decide whether she can trust the man (Paul) sent to rescue her. Filming begins in May in New Zealand. [Source: Deadline]
Mole People
Universal Pictures has reportedly acquired Chris Winterbauer’s pitch for a revamp of the 1956 horror film “The Mole People”. Winterbauer will pen the script whilst Robert Kirkman and Dave Alpert produce.
In the film, a woman travels to a town veiled in a conspiracy to rescue her grandchildren from their father. To do this, she must fight through hell in the underground tunnels where the darkness-dwelling Mole People reside. [Source: Deadline]
Thaw
Lee Cronin (“Evil Dead Rise”) will reunite with New Line for the original horror feature “Thaw”. The project was originally penned by Jeremy Passmore (“San Andreas”). Van Toffler, David Gale and Adam Goldworm produce.
Set years after the polar ice caps have melted and the sea levels have risen, the story centers on a group of survivors at sea searching for a new home. Their prayers are answered with the discovery of an inhabitable town, that is, until they encounter a new nightmare living just below the water’s surface. [Source: THR]
The Savant
Jessica Chastain will star in the eight-episode limited series “The Savant” at Apple and Fifth Season. The project is inspired by a true story published in Cosmopolitan in 2019 about a woman who infiltrates hate groups online to help stop large-scale public attacks.
Melissa James Gibson (“The Americans”) will serve as writer, executive producer, and showrunner, whilst Matthew Heineman (“A Private War”) will direct and executive produces. [Source: Variety]
Royal Crackers
Adult Swim has handed out an early second season renewal order to the half-hour animated comedy series “Royal Crackers” with the order coming ahead of the series premiere on Sunday, April 2nd.
Created by and starring Jason Ruiz, it follows the Hornsby family as they vie for control of their once-successful cracker company, which is crumbling whilst the tyrannical company founder/family patriarch is in a ‘super coma’.
