The Batman: Part II
Oscar-winning cinematographer Erik Messerschmidt has been confirmed as the cinematographer on Matt Reeves’ upcoming “The Batman: Part II”. The Insneider first reported it with Reeves subsequently confirming it.
Messerschmidt is best known for his work with David Fincher on the “Mindhunter” series and both “Mank” and “The Killer” (pictured above). He’s also lensed Michael Mann’s “Ferrari,” and J.D. Dillard’s “Devotion” along with Ridley Scott’s upcoming “The Dog Stars”. Other TV credits include “Raised by Wolves” and “Legion”.
Dune: Part Three
Venice Film Festival artistic director Alberto Barbera has revealed that he’s been advised by filmmaker Denis Villeneuve this weekend at the Marrakech Film Festival that “Dune: Part Three” could be a possibility at next year’s fest.
If so, it’ a very likely indicator the film will be moved up from its current December 18th 2026 release opposite “Avengers: Doomsday” to somewhere in October or November. The first “Dune” had its world premiere at Venice. [Source: Film Updates]
Supergirl
Actor Matthias Schoenaerts has been sentenced to six months in prison, a several thousand Euro fine, and a one-year driving ban for driving without a valid licence. The actor plays the main villain Krem in next Summer’s “Supergirl” film. [Source VRT News]
Untitled Spielberg UFO Feature
The first trailer for Steven Spielberg’s mysterious and still not formally titled UFO project is reportedly expected to be attached to copies of “Avatar: Fire and Ash” screening from December 19th.
Emily Blunt, Josh O’Connor, Colin Firth, Eve Hewson, Colman Domingo, and Wyatt Russel star in the film with John Williams handling the score. The film itself opens June next year. [Source DanielRPK]
Look Back
The first photos are out of “Look Back,” a live action adaptation of the best-selling one-shot manga, which is being brought to the screen by Oscar-winning filmmaker Hirokazu Kore-eda (“Shoplifters,” “Monsters”) next year. An anime film released in 2024.
The story follows a popular, outgoing student celebrated by her classmates for her funny comics in the class newspaper. One day she’s forced to share space with a truant recluse whose beautiful artwork sparks a competitive fervor. Jealousy transforms when the former realises their shared passion for drawing.
