Leonardo DiCaprio’s Appian Way Productions has closed a multi-picture, multi-year first-look deal with Sony Pictures Entertainment. The deal will see them produce scripted feature films for the studio and the companies are reportedly already in development on two projects. [Source: THR]

Netflix has ordered a Nadia Hallgren-directed documentary feature about famed civil rights attorney Ben Crump. Kenya Barris and Roger Ross Williams will produce. The doco will examine a number of Crump’s past and current cases, his impact on American civil rights and racial justice, and the toll such work takes on him and his family. [Source: Variety]
So Others May Live
Universal’s UCP divison is developing the procedural drama series “So Others May Live” penned by Stephen Meinen and produced by “Mr. Robot” creator Sam Esmail. The series is set in the world of the United States Coast Guard and follows a search-and-rescue helicopter crew dealing with the aftermath of tragedy as they attempt to pick up the pieces and resume their duties as elite First Responders on the front lines of crisis. Lovecraft Country
HBO has released a featurette for Misha Green and Jordan Peele’s horror drama series “Lovecraft Country” which debuts tonight. The series follows Atticus Freeman (Jonathan Majors) as he joins up with his friend Letitia (Jurnee Smollett-Bell) and his Uncle George (Courtney B. Vance) to embark on a road trip across 1950s Jim Crow America in search of his missing father (Michael Kenneth Williams) – facing the racist terrors of white America and terrifying monsters that could be ripped from a Lovecraft paperback.
