6 Underground
Netflix and Skydance Media have completed principal photography in Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates on the big-budget Michael Bay-directed action thriller “6 Underground”. “Deadpool” scribes Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick penned the film which began filming in Italy in late August. Ryan Reynolds, Dave Franco, Manuel Garcia-Rulfo, Adria Arjona, Corey Hawkins, Ben Hardy and Melanie Laurent co-star. [Source: Netflix]
Togo
Thorbjorn Harr (“22 July”) will co-star in the true-life dog sled adventure movie “Togo” being helmed by Ericson Core for the Disney+ streaming service. Tom Flynn wrote the script with the action set in 1925 when dog sleds transported diphtheria serum over nearly 700 miles to save Nome, Alaska, from an epidemic.
The story focuses on the unlikely friendship between two key figures, sled dog Togo and driver Leonhard Seppala (Willem Dafoe). Harr will play a member of the relay team who double-crosses Seppala during the run. [Source: THR]
The Glorias: A Life on the Road
Janelle Monae (“Moonlight”) has signed on to play activist Dorothy Pitman Hughes in Julie Taymor’s Gloria Steinem biopic. Julianne Moore and Alicia Vikander play Steinem at different ages in this story of her journey to become a crusader for equal rights and her groundbreaking work as a journalist and campaigner. The French Quarter Will Not Be Spared
Lionsgate is in final negotiations to acquire “The Shallows” scribe Anthony Jaswinski’s vampire-themed spec script “The French Quarter Will Not Be Spared” which hails from Khalabo Ink Society and The Picture Company.
The story will be set in New Orleans during hurricane Katrina and the tone will be that of a visceral and socially relevant horror film. Kenya Barris, Andrew Rona and Alex Heineman will produce. [Source: Deadline]
The Untitled Double Dutch Project
“Night School” director Malcolm D. Lee is set to produce “The Untitled Double Dutch Project” at Universal Pictures, based off an original idea by Thembi Banks which she will write. The story will revolve around the journey of a coach and his double-dutch jump rope team. Lee will produce for Blackmaled Productions. [Source: Deadline]
Escape Room
Sony Pictures has premiered two new TV spots for the thriller “Escape Room” ahead of its January 4th release. The psychological thriller follows six strangers who find themselves in circumstances beyond their control and must use their wits to find the clues or die. Taylor Russell, Logan Miller, Deborah Ann Woll, Jay Ellis and Tyler Labine co-star in the Adam Robitel-directed feature.
