Quibi To Adapt Junji Ito’s “Tomie” To Series

Quibi has handed out a green light to a TV series based on Junji Ito’s cult hit horror manga series “Tomie”.

Adeline Rudolph (“The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina”) is attached to star in the title role while the project is being run by “Crawl” director Alexandre Aja and “Aquaman” scribe David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick. The pair will both executive produce for Sony Pictures Television and UCP.

The story follows a beautiful high school girl (Rudolph) who goes missing and pieces of her body are discovered scattered around a small town. But what starts out as a murder mystery turns into something far more horrific.

Very much in the vein of H.P. Lovecraft and H.R. Giger’s work, Ito’s books are filled with bizarre body horror imagery in cruel universes where society breaks down. One of his most famous properties, “Uzumaki,” will become a four-part animated Adult Swim series later this year or in 2021.
