Quibi Drops From Top Apps Charts

Jeffrey Katzenberg and Meg Whitman’s short form and mobile only streaming service Quibi launched a little over a week ago with nearly two billion dollars in funding, a sold out ad inventory and plenty of major talent to make content for the mobile-only streaming service.

Now though, the Quibi app has reportedly already fallen out of the list of Top 40 free apps on Apple’s U.S. app store – sitting at number 46 on that chart yesterday, and that’s with the service offering a free 90-day trial. A week ago it sat at No. 3 on the Apple App Store, and No. 29 on Google Play.

The launch of the service has been soft with much of the blame being pointed at the timing – how is a service built primarily for content to be consumed during commuting going to be used in a time where everyone is stuck at home with little downtime and endless hours to binge TV.

That the service launched without an AirPlay or Chromecast option, let alone a dedicated app for Rokus, Apple TVs, Smart TVs and consoles, has not helped its standing. Even so, the service has managed 1.75 million downloads as of Monday.
