Quantic Dream Games Going Independent

French video game developer Quantic Dream has announced this week that they are going independent, with plans to both self-publish future games and provide development support for other projects.

The company is famous for its narrative-driven experiences with acclaimed titles like “Heavy Rain,” “Beyond: Two Souls” and “Fahrenheit: Indigo Prophecy”. They also made headlines for allegations of harmful business practices and a reportedly hostile work environment, charges still being denied to this day. In any case, they seem to have come through the other side of their legal issues intact.

The update this week follows the company’s 23rd birthday and their newfound independence has been attributed to the success they’ve had in the last two years with the release of both the PC versions of their existing games and the strong success of “Detroit: Become Human” which sold over three million copies worldwide in a little over a year.

Helping out also is that they have received a major investment deal from Chinese company NetEase, specifically for the development of next-generation games and technology. Quantic has not announced its next project formally, but it’s expected their next game will launch on next-generation hardware which is due to arrive later this year with the Xbox Series X and the PS5.
