It’s official, Machine Games and id Software have both announced and just released a visually enhanced remaster of iconic 1996 video game “Quake” for PC and consoles.
The announcement came as part of QuakeCon taking place today. The remaster offers a completely overhauled look complete with 4K support, widescreen resolutions, improved models, dynamic lighting, anti-aliasing, depth of field, and other visual enhancements.
In addition, Quake’s iconic multiplayer is available locally with four players and online with eight – all while allowing crossplay between consoles and PC. All of the original expansions are here along with 2016’s “Dimension of the Past” and the all-new “Dimension of the Machine”.
The original soundtrack from Trent Reznor along with a new theme is also included. Finally the remaster will have built-in mod support with a curated list of add-ons from fans and developers. Said list includes all the old missions from Quake 64.
Xbox Game Pass also announced that Quake, Quake II, and Quake III Arena have all been released on the subscription service – though the latter two only available on Xbox Game Pass PC at the moment.
The original, upgraded “Quake” is now available on PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
