“Punisher” Special To Release Alongside Spidey?

Marvel

Actor Jon Bernthal has confirmed that Marvel Studios’ “The Punisher” special presentation one-off will release around the same time as “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” opens in cinemas in July next year.

Bernthal first played The Punisher in Marvel’s “Daredevil” series on Netflix before getting two seasons of his own show, and then returning to the role for the first season of “Daredevil: Born Again”.

He’ll reprise it for the upcoming special and in the Destin Daniel Cretton-directed “Spider-Man: Brand New Day,” though reportedly won’t be returning for the second season of “Daredevil: Born Again” releasing across March-April next year.

Out promoting his role in the upcoming Netflix series “His & Hers,” he tells Screen Rant that the special and the Spider-Man film are designed in a way that his Frank Castle character could easily move between the two:

Around that same time, there will also be this Punisher special that’s coming out, that I think will be as high-octane Punisher as you’ve ever seen. I think what was really important to me and to Destin and to Tom [Holland] is that we believed that The Punisher could walk off of the Spider-Man set and could walk onto the special set, and I do believe that we achieved that”

Bernthal essentially shot the projects back-to-back with the special filmed just before “Spider-Man”. The only question remains is if the special will arrive just before or after the new Spidey film and which one takes place first in the continuity.

“Spider-Man: Brand New Day” opens July 31st.
