Marvel has already set its next team-up film with its “Thunderbolts” movie scheduled for July 26th 2024.

The film will serve as the end of a rather short Phase 5, which will all unfold in the space of just 17 months – starting with “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania” and consisting of six films and as many series over that period.

Based on the bad guy/anti-hero team from the comics, “Thunderbolts” is expected to see a mix of heroes and villains thrown together under U.S. government oversight.

It has long been assumed that Florence Pugh’s Yelena Belova character will be in the roster, and now Deadline reporter Justin Kroll has revealed in The Town podcast that Yelena, in fact, will be the film’s lead.

“[Florence Pugh] has got the Marvel superhero that’s already got a spin-off. Upcoming for her, actually, on that character is this ‘Thunderbolts’ film, which is basically Marvel’s ‘Suicide Squad’. Hopefully, it has better results. But the concept is it’d be her leading the team.”

It’s not clear what other members could make up the team beyond the likely inclusion of Wyatt Russell’s U.S. Agent along with Julia Louis-Dreyfus’ Valentina Allegra de Fontaine serving as the Amanda Waller/Nick Fury-style boss.

Some more updates on Marvel projects are expected at next weekend’s D23 Expo presentation. Pugh is currently at work on Denis Villeneuve’s “Dune: Part Two” in Budapest.
