Pugh, Malek, Safdie Join Nolan’s “Oppenheimer”

Florence Pugh (“Black Widow”), Rami Malek (“No Time to Die”) and Benny Safdie (“Licorice Pizza”) are set to join Robert Downey Jr., Matt Damon, Emily Blunt and Cillian Murphy in Christopher Nolan’s next directorial effort “Oppenheimer” at Universal Pictures.

The story revolves around J. Robert Oppenheimer, the scientist who ran the Manhattan Project which led to the invention of the atomic bomb.

Murphy will play Oppenheimer, Blunt his wife Kitty, Damon as the Manhattan Project’s director Lt. Gen. Leslie Groves, and Downey as infamous chairman of the Atomic Energy Commission Lewis Strauss.

Safdie will play Edward Teller, a Hungarian physicist who is known as the father of the hydrogen bomb and a member of the Manhattan Project. Malek is also playing a scientist.

Pugh will play Jean Tatlock, a Communist Party member who has an off-and-on affair with Oppenheimer.

Nolan is writing and directing the film which is based on Kai Bird and Martin J. Sherwin’s novel “American Prometheus”. Nolan, Emma Thomas and Charles Roven will produce and shooting aims to begin early next year for a July 21st 2023 release.
