PS5 Games Reveals Set For June 4th

The official unveiling of the first games for the PlayStation 5 console will happen next week on Thursday June 4th when Sony will hold a reveal titled ‘The Future of Gaming’ at 1pm US-PT, 4pm-US-ET, 9pm UK-GMT & 6am the next day AU-EST.

The presentation will include over an hour of reveals with plenty of gameplay footage from numerous new games being developed for the system according to Sony president and CEO Jim Ryan in a statement on the company blog.

The digital-only event will be streamed via the PlayStation Twitch and YouTube channels and is said to be only the first in a series of PS5 updates. Also a video teaser for the event seems to confirm an all-black DualSense controller is coming.

In addition, after having previously promised that PS5 will be backwards compatible with most of the current PS4 library of games, the company is now taking it one step further.

Sony has reportedly issued a mandate that all PlayStation 4 titles in development must be forward-compatible with the PS5 effective July 13th – so any title released on a PS4 after that date must be guaranteed to work on PS5. Responsibility for ensuring this will fall to the developers in charge of these games.

Sony will reportedly provide developers with details on how to test their product for PS5 compatibility and the games have to run on PS5 without issue and allow all of the same features that would be available on the PS4.

The PlayStation 5 will also reportedly be compatible right out of the box with the “overwhelming majority” of the 4,000+ PS4 titles available. Games are also all being tested individually to see if they can benefit from the stronger hardware.
