Sony has confirmed it will continue making previous-generation PlayStation 4 consoles through the end of 2022.
Bloomberg reports that the company had originally planned to shut down production of the older model late last year.
However, the ongoing shortage of chips required for PS5 production, and overall supply chain issues, have forced Sony to reconsider its original strategy.
This follows on from Microsoft confirming this week it has no plans to restart production of any version of the Xbox One and that the company discontinued making its older gen console back in late 2020.
Both companies are making their big exclusives in 2022 workable on the older hardware, with major next gen-only titles like “Spider-Man 2” targeting a 2023 release.
