It’s official, following a large outcry from fans regarding the service’s cropping of its early episodes, Disney+ and producer Al Jean have announced that all episodes of “The Simpsons” done in its original 4:3 aspect ratio will be made available in that format beginning next Thursday (May 28th).
Excitement over the on demand availability of all thirty seasons of the still popular “The Simpsons” when the Disney+ service launch quickly changed to anger as it became apparent that nearly 400 early episodes, produced in a 4:3 ratio, had been cropped to fit the more modern 16:9 ratio.
Said cropping resulted in the loss of numerous sight gags and poorer quality resolution. Disney said they would fix the problem, giving subscribers a choice of how they prefer to view the popular series (in either 4:3 or 16:9) and now they’ve apparently come through on that.
