California’s Department of Public Health has given its blessing for film and TV production to resume on June 12th, subject to approval from county public health authorities.
Production has been completely halted since early March, and it remains uncertain when it will actually restart. Detailed rules are being left up to local health officials and labor-management negotiation, while Los Angeles County health authorities are expected to issue their own guidelines as early as next week.
Though the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers drafted a 22-page ‘white paper’ on the topic submitted on Monday, union officials say job-by-job protocols remain to be worked out.
It’s expected those productions that will resume will undergo regular testing of crew members, six-foot physical distancing, and widespread use of face coverings. The new measures could increase production costs by as much as 20%.
