Producer Talks “Violent Night 2,” “Nobody 2”

Universal Pictures

The David Harbour-led holiday-themed action comedy “Violent Night” hit theaters on Friday and is coming in ahead of expectations with around a $13 million haul to be taken in over the three-day weekend.

Combined with some very good reviews, it’s a good enough result for what is a $20 million budgeted film that sequel speculation will no doubt begin. Speaking with Collider, the film’s producer Kelly McCormick says a sequel is on her wishlist.

She tells the outlet that a sequel to the Bob Odenkirk-led “Nobody” is in the works and, should “Violent Night” box-office hold well, a sequel that could go beyond the mere talked about phase:

“We’re working on a lot of originals right now. We are also working on a ‘Nobody 2’… We hope to make it [Nobody 2’s production] next year, so fingers crossed. So our theory is you don’t need to make a good sequel just to make a sequel. We need to make a great sequel. And so it’s about making sure that we get it right. And if we do, I think there’s a lot of hope that we can go next year.

We’re [also] hoping to start working on a ‘Violent Night 2,’ if everything goes well the next few weeks. We have a tendency to just keep our heads down and focus on what’s in front of us or near. So yeah, that’s kind of it. We’re in it. We still have two-and-a-half months of work to do on this one.”

What a sequel might entail isn’t clear but Harbour himself came up with a great idea he related to Digital Spy which would involve putting two of the Internet’s favorite other daddies in fluffy ears and fairy wings:

“We gotta get Pedro [Pascal] and Oscar [Isaac] to play the Easter Bunny and the Tooth Fairy in the next iteration: the Santa cinematic universe with a bunch of ‘daddies’ as imaginary creatures.”

Tommy Wirkola helms “Violent Night” in which a young girl calls old Saint Nick to rescue her from bad guys. Harbour, Leah Brady, Beverly D’Angelo, Alexis Louder, Alex Hassell, Cam Gigandet and Edi Patterson star, while John Leguizamo plays a villain named Mr. Scrooge.
