Producer Talks Post-Roiland “Rick and Morty”

Steve Levy, an executive producer on the seventh season of Adult Swim’s animated comedy series “Rick and Morty,” says the animated sitcom will be improved in the wake of Justin Roiland’s dismissal from the show.

The series debuted in 2013 and has deals in place that will take it through a tenth season. The sixth season aired late last year and the seventh season hasn’t set an air date as yet.

Roiland served as the voice for both titular characters along with co-creating the series with Dan Harmon. Adult Swim terminated its association with Roiland following controversies earlier this year.

This led to the seventh season undergoing major production changes. Speaking with The Los Angeles Times, Levy says the crew opted to stick together and work to improve the series:

“We had a rug pulled from underneath us. The only people we could lean on were each other. It would have been very easy to just say, ‘I’m done and I don’t want to do anything with this show anymore.’

But our crew said, ‘No, we’re not going to let one person drag down all of our hard work.’ This show is created by this team — this family of incredibly hardworking people, and we are going to push through and show the world that we aren’t going to miss a beat.

The work that we’re doing across the board has only gotten better. When the new season comes out, we’ll focus on how amazing it all turned out. We hope the fans will realize that this is the same old show, maybe even better!”

Levy previously revealed last month that the roles of Rick and Morty would be recast with ‘soundalikes’ doing the voices.
