“Princess Diaries 3” Script In Works At Disney

Aadrita Mukerji (“Reacher,” “Scorpion,” “Quantum Leap”) is penning the script for a new instalment of the Anne Hathaway-led film series “The Princess Diaries” at Disney.

THR broke the news, their sources saying the film will be a continuation of the prior films rather than a reboot. Debra Martin Chase, who produced the first two films, is producing the new one.

Hathaway does not have a deal to return, though previously has publicly stated her support for a third instalment. The hope is she’ll return should the new film move past the script stage.

Garry Marshall directed both prior films, which were released in 2001 and 2004, and sees Hathaway as an American teenager who learns she is heir to the throne of the European kingdom of Genovia. Julie Andrews co-starred.
