Netflix has officially announced that “Prey” and “10 Cloverfield Lane” director Dan Trachtenberg will helm an episode of the upcoming fifth and final season of its supernatural smash hit “Stranger Things”.
It is presently unknown which episode of the run he will helm. On TV, Trachtenberg previously directed the pilot of Prime Video’s massive hit “The Boys” and helmed the second episode of the third season of “Black Mirror”.
Production on the fifth and final season has been delayed by the writer’s strike. Filming on the episodes was initially slated to start in May/June as writing on the fifth season’s scripts had been underway since early August last year. No new start date is yet being targeted.
Cast members expected to return for the fifth season include Winona Ryder, David Harbour, Millie Bobby Brown, Finn Wolfhard, Noah Schnapp, Gaten Matarazzo, Caleb McLaughlin, Natalia Dyer, Charlie Heaton, Sadie Sink, Joe Keery, Maya Hawke, and Jamie Campbell Bower.
Joining them will be “Terminator” star Linda Hamilton who was recently cast in an undisclosed role. That reveal was announced at Netflix’s Tudum event earlier this month.
Executive producers and showrunners Matt and Ross Duffer have previously indicated they intend to go out with a huge-scale season, comparing it to “The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King” with multiple endings.
The fifth and final run of the series is expected to consist of eight episodes. Shawn Levy, Dan Cohen, and Curtis Gwinn also serve as executive producers.
